A man is heading to death row for a double shooting that killed one woman and injured another in Phoenix in 2014.

According to court documents, Franklin Arnett Clifton was sentenced to death for premeditated murder. He also received two concurrent 23-year sentences for attempted murder and kidnapping.

The shooting occurred in the area of 27th and Campbell Avenue in October, when two women were walking down the street.

Clifton, who was across the street at the time, approached them and opened fire on both women.

One woman died at the scene. The other woman, who was shot multiple times, survived.

Police said Clifton was arrested shortly after in the area.

At the time of the shooting, neighbors told Arizona’s Family that the incident may have been drug-related.

According to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry, 108 inmates are on death row, with all but three being men. Officials said that since 2013, an inmate is on death row for more than 25 years before being executed.
