A man will spend over four decades in prison for murdering his then-girlfriend’s father in the West Valley several years ago.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced on Monday that Terron Brown, 27, was sentenced to 43 years for the death of Ricardo Lopez Sr.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, 2021, Avondale officers received multiple 911 calls about a shooting at a home near 103rd Avenue and Indian School Road. Investigators say Brown, who was dating Lopez Sr.’s daughter at the time, got into an argument with her father.
In the midst of the argument, Brown fired multiple shots, striking Lopez Sr. and another family member. Lopez Sr. died from his injuries, and the other victim survived.
“No one should ever fear for their life inside the sanctuary of their home, yet that is exactly what this domestic abuser did,” Mitchell said in a statement. “When conflicts escalate to gun violence, the consequences are irreversible, and today’s sentence reflects the gravity of taking a life and our commitment to holding violent offenders fully accountable.”
Brown was convicted on one count of second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm.
