A father and son are dead after investigators said a Tesla driver hit them on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway in the Phoenix community of Laveen on Friday night.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on the freeway’s northbound side near Elliot Road.
Bart Graves with the Arizona Department of Public Safety said the duo had pulled their Chevy truck over on the shoulder because it had run out of gas.
They were apparently using a gas can to put gas into the truck when a woman driving a Tesla struck them.
Both died at the scene.
The father was around 77 years old and the son was in his 40s, DPS said.
The woman wasn’t impaired and stayed on scene, Graves said.
